Teeth Whitening in La Mesa

One of the most effective ways to have a brighter, glowing smile is to whiten your teeth. Compared to conventional products sold in stores, our La Mesa professional teeth bleaching options give you better results in less time (without the added risk of gum and tooth irritation.)

Whitening is a non-invasive, affordable cosmetic dental treatment that’s perfect as a stand-alone experience or added onto other aesthetic procedures. In fact, we recommend brightening your teeth before other smile makeover services so that updated restorations can be matched to your whiter smile!

Why Consider Professional Whitening by a Cosmetic Dentist?

  • Erase years of accumulated stain
  • Safely enhance your smile
  • Before getting new treatment in your “smile zone”
  • Compliment other cosmetic treatments
  • Naturally dark colored teeth

Types of Teeth Whitening Near You

Dr. Cvetan Mechev offers two types of professional whitening treatment methods in La Mesa. The one you choose depends on your timeline, budget, and what you’re most comfortable with.

Same-Day (In House) Whitening — When you’re short on time or just want the fastest white possible, our in-house treatment is your best choice. During this visit we’ll apply a specially formulated concentration to your porous tooth enamel, oxidizing stain particles just below the surface.

The 15-minute application is repeated another 3-4 times until we achieve your desired results. The entire visit takes just over an hour and whitens your teeth by several shades and has some of the best reviews.

Take Home Whitening Kits — Get the same great results as our in-house treatment, but in the convenience of your own home. We’ll take an impression of your teeth to create a customized, snuggly fitting whitening tray. Place a small dot of professional grade gel in the reservoirs and wear your tray for two hours a day. You’ll see full results within 10-14 days. In the meantime, be sure to avoid items that stain your teeth, like soda, tobacco products, and red wine.

Plus, you can keep the gel handy for touch-ups throughout the year (for most people, we recommend a few sessions after each checkup).

Professional treatment not only lasts longer that peroxide based treatment, but is safer than natural, low cost home remedies that you can buy from Amazon or Walmart for use at home.

Contraindications to Whitening (Avoid Affordable Over-th-Counter Whitening Pens, Kits, Strips, etc. and see a Dentist)

There are a few instances where whitening isn’t recommended. For instance, if you have active tooth decay, gum disease or structural teeth problems (excessive wear, erosions, abfractions – chipped enamel at the gumline), those infections will need to be treated before a whitening agent can be applied to your tooth. Whitening might not be the best choice for your health at that time.

Additionally, if you have any dental work towards the front of your mouth — like white crowns or fillings — it’s important to know that those restorations won’t respond to a whitening agent. Bleaching your teeth will only cause them to stand out in stark contrast to the brighter enamel around them. In such cases, we’ll want to plan to replace your existing dental work or fill decayed areas temporarily until your whiter teeth are ready to have permanent fillings.
