What Is the Ceramill Motion 2?

The Ceramill Motion 2 by Amann Girrbach is a professional-grade, 5-axis dental milling and grinding unit engineered in Germany. Since its introduction in 2012 as one of the first hybrid milling machines in dentistry, it has become a global benchmark — combining wet and dry material processing in a single compact unit.

Unlike the small chairside mills designed only for single crowns, the Ceramill Motion 2 is a full laboratory-scale production machine. Its 5-axis simultaneous technology approaches every blank from every angle — capturing anatomical contours, tight margins, and surface detail that demanding restorations require.

Dr. Mechev’s investment in this machine reflects his commitment to keeping the entire treatment chain — from digital design to final delivery — under one roof. La Mesa Dental Center is one of the very few San Diego dental practices operating a fully-equipped in-house CAD/CAM digital dental lab, giving patients direct access to laboratory-quality restorations without leaving his care.

Technical Capabilities

Why the Ceramill Motion 2 Stands Apart

01
5-Axis Simultaneous Milling
Two rotating axes beyond standard 3-axis movement allow the machine to handle any geometry from any angle — producing restorations with an unlimited indication range and micro-precise margins.

02
Wet & Dry Hybrid Processing
One machine handles both wet and dry modes — automatically selecting the optimal technique per material for the finest surface finish, from zirconia to lithium disilicate to PMMA.

03
DNA Milling Strategies
Amann Girrbach’s proprietary algorithms are updated continuously and optimized specifically for dental materials — guaranteeing perfectly fitting results with every fabrication run.

04
German-Engineered Precision
Industrial-grade components built to exceed dental load-bearing requirements. Minimal vibration, precision spindles, and robust axis guidance ensure stable results over years of use.

05
Open Material System
Compatible with zirconia, PMMA, lithium disilicate, glass ceramics, hybrid ceramics, composite resins, wax, and CoCr — complete material freedom for every clinical situation.

06
Future-Proof Platform
Continuous firmware and milling strategy updates from Amann Girrbach keep the machine current with tomorrow’s materials and expand its indication range over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About In-House Dental Milling

What is in-house dental milling?
In-house dental milling means your dentist designs and fabricates your restoration — crown, bridge, veneer, denture, implant crown, or nightguard — directly at the dental office using a CAD/CAM milling machine. At La Mesa Dental Center, Dr. Mechev uses the professional-grade Ceramill Motion 2 by Amann Girrbach for every in-house restoration.

What restorations can Dr. Mechev mill in-house?
Dr. Mechev mills: single crowns, porcelain veneers, dental bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, implant crowns and bridges, and custom nightguards — all in-house at our La Mesa office serving patients from La Mesa, El Cajon, Spring Valley, and across San Diego.

Is in-house milling covered by dental insurance?
Coverage depends on your plan and restoration type. La Mesa Dental Center accepts all PPO dental insurance. Our team will review your benefits and provide a clear treatment plan before any procedure. Call (619) 337-2424 or contact us online.

How long does a milled restoration take?
A single crown or nightguard can often be completed in one extended appointment or two brief visits. Multi-unit bridges, dentures, and implant restorations may require additional appointments, but the overall timeline is shorter than with an outside lab — no shipping delay involved.

Does La Mesa Dental Center serve patients from outside La Mesa?
Yes. Dr. Mechev serves patients from El Cajon, Spring Valley, Alpine, Lemon Grove, Del Cerro, Santee, Mt. Helix, Grossmont, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Rancho San Diego, and throughout San Diego County.
